Requirements:

  • Compliance with all applicable City of Jerseyville Codes.
  • Where applicable, sketch of improvement referencing location, size and distance from property lines shall be provided.
  • Notify Building and Zoning Department for inspections as improvement progresses.

Limited Building Permit Fee

$25.00

Building Permits are Non-refundable.

A Limited Permit is needed for construction of a accessory building (larger than 10 sq. ft.); electric service upgrade; fence; deck; carport without walls; gazebo; demolition; etc. A $25 permit fee is charged.

Notify Building & Zoning Department for inspections. 48 hours’ notice is required.

Zoning Application & Process

To begin the process of changing the current zoning on a piece of property please make an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk. During this appointment a time line will be established with the proper steps needed to commence a change of zoning. The owner of said piece of real estate must be included to all parts of this process, as well as the Office of the City Clerk and the Department of Building and Zoning.

Gazebos Requirements

  1. If electric to gazebo is desired, it should be buried 18 inches (18″) deep in electrical conduit or direct burial cable. An inspection of the electrical service must be made.
  2. A final inspection must be made when gazebo is complete.

Demolition Requirements

  1. All utilities must be disconnected before demolition can begin.
  2. A final inspection is required when demolition is complete to ensure both water & sewer is capped.

Carport Requirements

  1. Carports can be placed five feet (5′) from the back or three feet (3’) from the side property line and cannot be enclosed.
  2. Piers for the support poles must be a minimum of 36 inches (36″). An inspection of the pier holes must be made before they are poured.
  3. If a concrete floor is desired, it is required that it be at least four inches (4″).
  4. Shingles are allowed on roofs with a slope greater than 3:12.
  5. A final inspection must be made when carport is complete.

Installation and Requirements:

  • All installations shall conform to the City of Jerseyville’s Sign Ordinance. (Title 11, Chapter 12)
  • All electrical installations shall conform to the requirements of the latest adopted edition of the National Electrical Code NFPA #70.

The following minimum requirements must be submitted with application:

  • Drawing of plot plan showing distances to lot lines, dimensions of signs, dimensions of property, set back lines and street name.
  • Show size of sign(s) and height of sign(s) above ground.
  • Show type of materials to be used in construction of sign(s).
  • If ground sign exceeds 10 feet in height, two sets of plans and specifications are required. Specifications include: dimensions, materials, constructions details, loads, stresses, anchorage and property line details.
  • Liability insurance is required.

Permit Fees:

$30.00 for signs up to 30 square feet, and $0.50 for each foot thereafter.

  • Notify Building & Zoning Department for inspections as improvement progresses. 48 hours’ notice is required.

This Permit should be obtained by any individual residing with in the Mile & ½ area around the City of Jerseyville. This Permit needs to be purchased before visiting the county offices to obtain and Jersey County Building Permit.

Requirements

Compliance with all applicable City of Jerseyville zoning.

Sketch of improvement referencing location, size and distance from property lines shall be provided. (Must have before Permit will be issued)

Notify Building and Zoning Department for inspection after site has been staked out (prior to digging) to verify setbacks.

Pool Requirements

  1. Any swimming pool deeper than 24 inches (24″) has to comply with chapter 41 of the 2006 I.R.C. Code.
  2. Pool shall not be located in any front yard.
  3. All above ground pools which are over 24 inches (24″) in depth or greater shall be enclosed around the perimeter of the pool by means of a barrier or fence four feet (4′) in height or greater. In ground pools must have a barrier of at least four feet (4′) in height. Any openings in the barrier shall not be greater than four inches (4″).
  4. Where a four-foot (4′) above ground pool structure is used as the barrier the entire perimeter shall have that four-foot (4′) barrier. All ladders must either be removable or retractable with the ability to be locked in the up position. Any permanent deck or fence used as a barrier shall have a self-closing gate that locks.
  5. Electrical connections to operate pool-filtering systems must be ground fault protected. Wiring from power source to operate electrical equipment for pool must be installed in electrical conduit or cable designed and approved for direct burial. All of these methods shall be buried to a minimum depth of 18 inches (18”) below grade.
  6. In ground Pools: Call when electrical work is completed but not buried.

 

All Pools: Call when completed for final inspection.

Final inspections will not be approved until fence or barrier is also installed.

Deck Requirements

  1. All decks more than 30 inches (30″) off the ground must have a securely attached handrail at least 36 inches (36″) tall with spindles no more than four inches (4″) apart. Handrails must be provided on stairs leading off the deck.
  2. Footings must be a minimum of 36 inches (36″). An inspection of the footing holes must be made before they are poured.
  3. A final inspection must be made when deck is complete.

Fence Requirements

  1. Fences may be built on property line; however, it is the property owner’s responsibility to determine the property line.
  2. Front yard fences shall not exceed four and one half (4’ ½) feet in height (measured from natural ground) and shall not be of solid construction.
  3. Rear yard fence shall not exceed six and one half (6’1/2) feet in height (measured from natural ground) and shall not extend past front of any dwelling or any property adjacent to the fence.
