4-6 UPDATE: Coronavirus COVID-19 City of Jerseyville

Jerseyville, March 18, 2020

Jerseyville Mayor William Russell held an emergency department head meeting Monday morning to discuss the city response to the coronavirus outbreak and Governor Pritzker’s recent executive orders. Numerous subjects were covered with all department heads contributing ideas and suggestions.  The information in this release is subject to change due to new government mandates being issued daily.

City Hall 

Commencing on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 the City Hall lobby will be closed to the public until further notice. The City Clerk and all city hall employees will be working, and city business can be conducted by calling 618-498-3312. The utility payment drive-up window on the southwest corner of the building will be open to accept utility payments and for all city business.

Recreation Department

Dolan Park, Lion’s Club/Wittman Park, Northmor, Rotary Park, and Wock Lake: Shelters and playground equipment is now closed to the public. You may still utilize the parks for walking/running while maintaining appropriate social distance.

4-1 Update: Fishing at Wock Lake is prohibited until further notice.

Baseball/Softball: We are still planning to have our summer leagues, however, we cannot say when they will start at this time. Teams are being made, and schedules are being made as usual. Coaches meetings will be rescheduled at a later date. No practices will be scheduled or allowed until further notice.

All gym rentals and Feyerabend Building rentals are cancelled with full refunds of any deposits. Only online registration for future recreation department leagues, including baseball, will be accepted.

Susnig Center will remain closed to the public until further notice. Office hours will be 7am to 3pm Mon-Fri and we will handle phone and/or email inquiries daily.

Yard and Garage Sales

In efforts to try and continue to protect the residents of the City of Jerseyville from the spread of  COVID-19, all yard and/or garage sales are prohibited within the City limits of Jerseyville until further notice.

Jerseyville Public Library 

Due to the continued growing concern for the spread of the Coronavirus and out of respect for the CDC’s statement that the virus can live on plastic, paper and other surface materials for up to 3 days, curbside service will be suspended as of 6:00 pm, Wednesday, March 18, 2020.  The Free Library materials are no longer available. The only Library services available will be our digital offerings and free WIFI in the parking lot until further notice.  Continue to visit us on FaceBook and on our website at Thank you for your patience in these unprecedented times. 

Water and Sewer Department

Water and sewer service shutoffs will be discontinued until further notice. Those services that are already shutoff will be turned back on. All user charges, fees, penalties and interest will remain due and users who have delinquent charges should call City Hall to make installment payment arrangements. 618-498-3312

Please help do your part to save time and money by only flushing items into that our sewer system can handle.

Only flush bodily wastes and toilet paper.

Do Not Flush: shop towels, paper towels, fats, oils, grease, facial tissues, baby wet wipes, “flushable” wipes, diapers, training pants, underwear, cat litter, food, sanitary or hygiene products.

Water and Sewer Payments

4-1-20 Update: We are asking our customers to please put all payments directly in the night deposit which is just past the drive-up window on the southwest corner of City Hall.  When paying with cash, please put money in an envelope with the small end of the bill included with your payment.  If you do not have your bill, please put your name and address on the envelope.  If needed, envelopes will be provided by our staff during office hours.  No change will be given, we will credit your account appropriately.  Keep your end of the bill for your records noting how much you paid.  No receipts will be given through the drive-up.  No credit cards will be taken through the drive-up.  If you wish to make a credit card payment you may do so by calling 1-877-885-7968 or by paying your bill online at

City Dump 

Due to COVID-19 precautions, we are only accepting sealed trash bags at this time for regular loads.  Drivers shall remain in their vehicles, and only City employees shall unload trash bags from your vehicle.  If you have bags in the trunk or back seat area, simply click to open the trunk or point to the back seat for us.  If you have a permit for a large load, please let us now, and you will be directed where to unload  on your own, with no assistance from City employees.  We appreciate your understanding of these added precautions, and your patience during this time.

4-6 UPDATE: Due to COVID-19 precautions, and City Hall restrictions on walk-in and drive-up customers, the City is extending the annual deadline for dump sticker renewal by at least one month for 2020, to June 1.  We will allow continued dumping privileges for all patrons who currently have valid dump stickers up until that time.  If you are not a current customer, and would like to purchase a dump sticker, you can contact City Hall at 618-498-3312 and make arrangements for payment and mailing of a dump sticker for your use.  We appreciate your understanding, and your patience during this time.

Social Distancing at all City Facilities; Essential Services; City Council Meeting Cancelled 

All city facilities will be closed to the extent possible. All city employees have been directed to practice social distancing, maintaining the recommended 6 feet of separation from other individuals.  The public is asked to assist employees in complying with this directive. City employees providing essential services to City residents, including City police and fire department employees, will continue to do their jobs.  The City Council meeting for Tuesday, March 24, 2020 is cancelled.

WIFI Available 

Grafton Technologies has graciously extended the City WiFi services at City Hall, to include the City Hall parking lots located at City Hall and across the street due east of City Hall.  No password is required, and it is free.  The network is “CityHallTemp.”  Users should stay in their vehicles.

Restaurant & Bar Curbside Service 

The City police department will assist all restaurants and bars who wish to provide curbside service, but do not already have a drive-up window. The assistance will include establishing parking spaces dedicated to curbside users and will be individualized to each restaurant or bar.
