Public Notice: Winter Storm Watch

The National Weather Service Forecast Office has issued its latest winter weather updates for Friday, January 12, through Monday, January 15, for an area which includes Jerseyville – see link below.

Please be prepared and take added safety precautions. Our street and public property departments will work diligently to maintain City streets and other public spaces during the winter storm event. As an aid to their efforts, here are some friendly reminders:

  • Limit travel during snow-pushing operations and use extreme caution when travel is necessary
  • Keep all vehicles in your driveway or otherwise on your private property, and leave the entire street open for snow-pushing and road salt application
  • Do not follow closely behind the snowplows nor dart in front of the plows, as it is hard to see other vehicles in winter storm conditions
  • Do not pile any accumulated snow from driveways or parking lots into any City street, nor block visibility along streets with snow piles, nor cover-up/block any fire hydrants
  • Do not touch any downed power lines, and report any downed lines and/or power outages to the local electric company
  • Report any downed trees/limbs to City Hall
  • Stay in touch with family/friends throughout the event, especially the elderly or others with special needs

Forecasts and winter storm events can change quickly. Our priorities are State Highway routes and emergency routes to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and other essential facilities. Business and residential areas follow. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to maintain our street system and other public spaces.
