Residential Building
Permit Application

Please fill out this form in its entirety to speed the process of approval.

Note that we do require the Name, Phone, and License Number for the Contractor, Electrical, Plumbing, and Roofing Services. If you are planning to complete these yourself please note, this action may require additional inspections.


Minimum Code Requirements 

Building Permit Application must be accompanied by a plot Plan showing lot area and proper front, side and rear building setbacks.

Minimum setbacks for R-1 zoning classification:

Side – Combined total of 20ft
Front – 20 feet
Rear – 20 feet

NOTE: Setbacks measured from property lines, not from the back of curb.

Minimum setbacks for R-2, R-3, R-4, and R-5 zoning classification

Rear – 30 feet
Side – 5 feet
Front – 40 feet

Compliance with the latest adopted City of Jerseyville Subdivision Ordinance

Compliance with the latest adopted edition of the National Electrical Code Standard NFPA #70

Compliance with the latest adopted edition of the IRC One and Two family dwelling Code

State of Illinois Law requires compliance with the latest adopted edition of the Illinois Plumbing Code

NOTE: Approval of Any Building Permit Application and issuance of the Building Permit does not give permission to violate the City of Jerseyville’s Building and Zoning Codes. Where applicable, State of Illinois Codes and Regulations may be more stringent. Building Permits become void if work is not commenced within 180 days or if work is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days (111.6)

Plot Plan Guide

Please use the document below document to map out the plan for the lot, included are reminders of zoning requirements based on classification. The Plot Plan must be submitted with the Residential Building Permit Application.


Notice Regarding
Roofing Work

This Form should be filled out, Printed, Singed and submitted to the City of Jerseyville Department of Building and Zoning as acknowledgement that you are away of the requirements of the IDFPR (Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Please attach the Notice Regarding Roofing Work to your One & Two Family Building Permit Application when applying for the permit.


Inspection Schedule

Please print off for your records a copy of the inspection schedule that will be used by the Department of Building and Zoning when you have your inspection.

NOTE: 48 hours’ notice is required for inspections. Failure to notify the Building official of the necessity of an inspection and failure to halt construction until the appropriate inspections are completed shall result in a fine of $100.00. Plus court cost for each of the property owner and the construction contractor.

Permit Application

The building permit will be considered incomplete without the proper completed documents. Building permits for the City of Jerseyville must be electronically filled out, handwritten permits will not be accepted. This can be done at home and printed, or by using the kiosk at City Hall.
